Director Group Accounting (f/m/d)

Location: Berlin

Purpose of the role

As Director Group Accounting you will head the Group Accounting team based in Berlin, and report directly to the EVP Financial Reporting & Accounting. The main responsibility is to prepare timely and accurate IFRS compliant Group financial statements to provide it to internal and external stakeholders.

Key tasks

  • Manage and develop a team of 8 in Berlin
  • Compile timely and accurate monthly /yearly IFRS Group financial statements and other reports to senior management, shareholders and external parties
  • Pivotal role in the preparation of the monthly report to senior management, shareholders and external parties
  • Continuously improving the group reporting process, related financial processes and workflows thereby also driving automation and strengthening internal controls
  • Ensuring compliance with Group financial and accounting policies and procedures
  • Coordinating Group audit and acting as primary contact for auditors
  • Provide monthly/quarterly analysis of the balance sheet and cash flow movements
  • Contribute to forecast and budgets and coordinate certain aspects of these processes
  • Manage special projects as e.g. purchase price allocations
  • Participate in Central Finance projects as e.g. portfolio changes
  • Provide support to other Central Finance departments
  • Maintain the Group Accounting Manual and Consolidation Manual updated
  • Key relationships

  • With local accounting teams to ensure timely/accurate monthly reporting and also to improve reporting process
  • Align all matters of Financial Reporting with Director of Group Management Reporting to e.g. ensure timely/accurate reporting of monthly results and provide analysis as requested
  • With other Central Finance department to ensure consistency in financial reporting but also to provide support as needed
  • With the business to assess accounting treatment of e.g. new business models, complex contracts etc. to ensure correct/timely reflection in the accounts
  • With external auditors to ensure smooth, timely and efficient audit of the Group financial statements
  • With Senior Management to provide analysis as requested
  • Qualifications

  • Degree in economics, finance, business administration or the like
  • Experience

  • At least 7 years of work experience with an international Group in group financial reporting/accounting or alternatively with a Big Four Audit firm
  • Experience in supervising/leading a team in a similar context
  • Practical experience with SAP Finance/Controlling system environment
  • Experience with Hyperion Financial Management consolidation/reporting software as a plus
  • Skills / Knowledge

  • Very strong knowledge in IFRS and consolidation accounting and solid knowledge of German commercial law (HGB)
  • Strong business language proficiency in English and German
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate effectively with both senior business management and senior finance management
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel
