Intern Renewable Energy Project Development (m/w/d)

Arbeitsort: 53111 Bonn

Stellenbeschreibung

As part of the German Energy Solutions Initiative of the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action, the Project Development Programme (PDP) promotes climate-friendly energy solutions in over partner countries. It develops implementable renewable energy projects, especially solar photovoltaic (PV), by identifying local companies, assessing their energy demand, and proposing a business case. Once the local companies are convinced to invest in the project, an introduction to potential German suppliers is made. After analysing the market dynamics and the challenges, PDP together with other GIZ projects and the German Chambers of Commerce Worldwide Network (AHK), develops appropriate solutions for developing the markets, promoting partnerships between German and local companies, and advancing specific renewables projects. 'Made in Germany' technologies and know-how of climate-friendly energy supply are in demand worldwide. Along with governments, more and more companies are becoming aware of the importance of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency to reduce dependence on fossil resources. It also plays a vital role in mitigating climate change and helps to reduce costs, thus increasing their competitiveness. The support is primarily aimed at German small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and helps prepare, explore, enter, and secure new business opportunities in the developing markets. The support strategy of the German Energy Solutions Initiative is the result of continuous discussion and coordination with the German industry. Direct up-to-date information from the developing markets forms the basis for the annual review process and a further selection of the countries and support measures planning. The focus in sub-Saharan Africa is on Botswana, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Nigeria, Zambia, Senegal, in the Middle East on Jordan, and Lebanon, and in Southeast Asia on Cambodia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Vietnam.

You will support the project team in the preparation of measures in the partner countries with both organisational and content-related issues. The range of tasks includes:

  • Analysis of measurement data (e.g. electrical load profiles)
  • Simulation of energy systems (grid and off-grid PV systems with/without generator and/or battery)
  • Research on technical topics and creating country profiles
  • Support with general project management tasks
  • You have completed your Bachelor's degree and/or are currently studying for a Master's degree in the field of natural science, engineering or economics and have gained initial experience in the field of renewable energies and/or energy efficiency.
  • Possess a good overview of the different renewable energy technologies (especially solar photovoltaics) and the associated business models. Familiar with different political approaches to promote renewable energies.
  • Knowledge in the fields of energy efficiency, decentralised electrification, and industrial self-consumption are desirable. As the project works closely with German renewable energy and energy efficiency companies and the relevant industry associations, knowledge of these industry structures is an advantage.
  • Previous knowledge of energy simulation software, such as HOMER and/or PVSyst, is required.
  • Very good office skills (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Prior experience in the field of financial modelling of renewable energy projects is a distinct advantage.
  • Proficient in English and German (C1 level); further language skills in French (C1 level) is an advantage.
  • Please be informed that you are only allowed to apply for this internship, if you are currently enrolled as a student or graduated not longer than six months ago from the start of your internship.
