Stellenbeschreibung

Postdoc (f/m/d) High-Throughput Discovery and Characterization of Photovoltaic
Materials SE 2024/12

Reference No.: SE 2024/12

Thin-film photovoltaic technologies have the potential for high performance,
low cost, customizability, building integration, and minimized material usage.
Current challenges in research are the identification of earth-abundant,
non-toxic and stable materials and device structures which can support high
conversion efficiencies.

Our department focuses on the research and development of novel photovoltaic
materials such as perovskites, chalcogenides and nitrides by combinatorial
approaches, analysing sample libraries with compositional gradient by
high-throughput characterisation techniques.
We are particlarly interested in developing and applying non-contact optical
characterization techniques, such hyperspectral luminescence imaging,
time-resolved photoluminescence and Thz absorption spectroscopy for
high-throughput semiconductor characterization.
These methods can be used for early-stage material performance assessment, but
also for process monitoring in industrial settings.

We are currently looking for a highly motivated researcher to contribute to
the advancement of multimodal, optical characterisation methods, which combined
with machine-learning aided data analysis will enable high-throughput research
and development of novel photovoltaic materials.

Your Tasks

* You carry out optical characterizations of thin-film photovoltaic materials
using advanced photoluminescence spectroscopy and imaging methods.
* You optimize sensors for high-throughput analysis.
* You apply machine-learning/AI algorithms to evaluate optical measurements
in high-throughput experimental settings.
* You cooperate with other scientists in an interdisciplinary team.
* You write project documentation and reports, communicate with project
partners, and present our results.
Your Profile

* Doctoral degree in physics, materials science, electrical engineering or a
comparable field
* Good knowledge of semiconductor physics and optics
* Good programming skills, preferably in Python
* Strong analytical thinking and ability to critically reflect on results
* Good communication skills
* Desirable: Knowledge and experience in thin-film solar cell research
Your Benefits at HZB

* A job at one of the 18 Helmholtz centres
* Work in the research environment of the science metropolis Berlin
* The opportunity to contribute together with researchers from all around the
world to the development of renewable energies, energy strorage and next-gen
technologies for a climate-friendly future
* Work-life balance
* Flexible work hours with flexitime
* 39-hour week
* 30 days paid leave
* Mobile working on up to three days/week
* Comprehensive counselling services for family and career
* Health management and company sports programmes
* Financial support for public transport (Deutschlandticket Job)
* Continuing education opportunities
* A company pension scheme (VBL)
* And a team that looks forward to meeting you!
Fixed term contract for 24 months. The salary is based on the Collective
Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).

How to apply

We look forward to receiving your application via our application management
system by 19.05.2024. For reasons of data protection regulations, we are
unfortunately unable to consider applications that reach us by other means
(such as email or mail) in the application process.

We very much want our workplace to be diverse, and welcome applications from
people with different backgrounds. It is our mission to promote equal
opportunities and to improve women’s representation in the workforce. We
are therefore very interested in receiving applications from women. Where the
