Your main responsibilities:
Evaluate risks in accordance with the company's guidelines and make underwriting decisions within your authority level for assigned treaties. Handling larger clients with complex structures and be involved in the portfolio strategy for the overall business we write in the region Maintain a balanced portfolio which we intend to grow further with your contribution. You will work in a variety of markets. With your experience you will also support and guide junior underwriters. Our underwriters play a meaningful role in meetings and negotiations with clients/brokers, and you build relationships with your clients' property underwriters and coordinate exchanges to develop business together and to transfer knowledge.
About the team
During times outside of pandemics, our desk is based in Munich and consists of an experienced underwriting team. During pandemics, we collaborate from home in well-established virtual teams.
The North East European Desk focusses on property insurance with a north and east European scope, serving a client base ranging from homeowners to corporations. To distinguish ourselves from the competition, we provide services to our clients, and we share our know-how with them. We seek to help our clients grow and to thrive, by closing the protection gap as well as in helping our clients with their capital management.
Deals we write in our desk range from country-specific treaties to cross-regional solutions with a broad coverage. As a result, you will collaborate with other lines of business, facultative underwriting, offices abroad and structured reinsurance.
As a senior underwriter and part of the EMEA property hub you do results and profit oriented underwriting of new and existing accounts, as well as production of new business and relationship development involving larger treaty risks with a focus on regional as well as international program business.
About you
University degree (Master or equivalent), with a quantitative, scientific or economic focus At least 5-10 years experience as a property underwriter Excellent knowledge of complex program structures as well as Single Carrier business is desired. Solid experience and understanding of Nat Cat and human-made risk management, loss prevention and underwriting Diverse industry experience a plus Proven negotiation skills with a strong business and client focus Ability and consistent track record of handling complex transactions/accounts You believe that learning should never stop and appreciate development and change as meaningful ingredients to your work. You have demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills and are a pragmatic problem solver, also under time constraints and changing boundary conditions. You flourish with delivering results. Track record of building relationships with clients and excel at communicating in person, over the phone, via email, and across teams. It is vital that you have an intrinsic motivation and like to take ownership: your manager empowers you and does not intend to micromanage you. You are creative, and a good communicator, and you thrive in collaborations with colleagues and clients. Excellent German and English language skills, additional languages are a plus.
